扎什倫布寺

Tashilhunpo Monastery is located at the foot of Mount Niseri in Shigatse, Tibet; in Tibetan, its name meansJixiang Sumeru Temple, founded in 1447 by the First Dalai Lama, Gendun Drub, it is one of the six major monasteries of the Gelug School of Tibetan Buddhism and the largest monastery in Tsang. Since the time of the Fourth Panchen Lama, it has becomeSacred Sites Where Successive Panchen Lamas Resided, a national 5A-level scenic area and one of the first national key cultural heritage sites; the monastery buildings are arranged in a terraced pattern along the mountainside, The Red Hall on the Golden Summit is magnificent, housing at its center the world’s largest gilded bronze Maitreya Buddha, as well as several stupa halls dedicated to the Panchen Lamas and millennia-old religious murals. It serves not only as the political, religious, and cultural heart of Back Tibet but also as Shigatse’s most iconic cultural landmark.
